Pink Floyd

One of the most influential musical groups of all times, and certainly pivotal in my own life...

'Comfortably Numb'

'Wish you Were Here'

'So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from Pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears,
Wish you were here.'

It wouldn't be right not to include this:

'Shine on You Crazy Diamond'
(Tribute to Syd Barrett)

'Remember when you were young,
You shone like the Sun,
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky,
Shine on, you crazy diamond...

You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon,
Shine on, you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light,
Shine on, you crazy diamond...

Come on, you boy child,
You winner and loser,
Come on, you miner for truth and delusion,
And shine!'

It's a song for every prodigy who didn't make it as well as those who did, paying a terrible and wonderful price for their genius and vision.
